Your Doctor, Now on Amazon? Health AI Expands! WED, 11 MAR 2026

Hot off the press: Amazon just rolled out its special AI health assistant, "Health AI," to its main website and app! Before, only folks using Amazon's One Medical app could access it. But now, anyone can use it, even if you're not a Prime member or a One Medical subscriber.

So, what does it do? This AI can answer your general health questions, help you understand your medical records, manage prescription refills, and even book appointments. If you choose to give it access to your actual health info (through a secure system called Health Information Exchange), it can get even more personalized, explaining your lab results or connecting you to a One Medical doctor for certain conditions. Prime members even get a few free virtual chats!

Now, for the important part: sharing your health data with AI. Researchers have been warning about companies using conversations for training. Amazon says they train their AI using "abstracted patterns" without directly identifying you, and that all interactions are within a HIPAA-compliant environment with encryption. However, they haven't shared super specific details on how that encryption works or who exactly has access.

This is a pretty big deal because it puts a powerful new tool right at your fingertips. Imagine getting quick answers to health questions or help with appointments without having to call someone or wait. It could make managing your health a lot more convenient. But it also raises real questions about privacy. Are we ready to trust AI, especially from a giant like Amazon, with our most personal health information, even with promises of security? Other big tech companies like OpenAI and Anthropic are also jumping into the health AI space, so this trend is definitely growing.

What are your thoughts on Amazon getting deeper into healthcare with AI? Would you feel comfortable sharing your personal health information with an AI assistant for convenience, or does the privacy aspect make you hesitant?
