How a hyper-fit founder used AI to outsmart a rare cancer diagnosis

Image
Conno Christou was the picture of health, tracking his sleep with multiple wearables and monitoring nearly 100 biomarkers each year. Then, after a workout, his arm swelled. Doctors found blood clots, but a pre-op scan revealed something far worse: an 11-centimeter tumor behind his sternum. A biopsy confirmed aggressive non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a cancer so rare it affects just one in 420,000 people. His first oncologist recommended a lighter chemotherapy regimen. A second opinion suggested the opposite—a far more aggressive treatment with an 85% success rate versus 60%. Christou didn’t stop there. Hot off the press: Amazon just announced they're making their healthcare AI assistant, called Health AI, available directly on their main website and app. This is a pretty big deal because before, you could only use it if you were a member of One Medical, the healthcare company Amazon bought a while back. So, what does it do? This AI can answer your general health questions, help you understand your medical records, sort out prescription renewals, and even book appointments. The best part? Amazon says you don't even need to be a Prime member or a One Medical customer to use it. While it can give general advice without knowing your personal health details, it's really designed to be a personalized helper. If you give it permission, it can access your health info through a secure national system to give you more tailored guidance, explain lab results, and even connect you with a doctor if you need one. Why should you care? This kind of tool could make managing your hea...

Hot off the press: Amazon just rolled out its special AI health assistant, "Health AI," to its main website and app! Before, only folks using Amazon's One Medical app could access it. But now, anyone can use it, even if you're not a Prime member or a One Medical subscriber. So, what does it do? This AI can answer your general health questions, help you understand your medical records, manage prescription refills, and even book appointments. If you choose to give it access to your actual health info (through a secure system called Health Information Exchange), it can get even more personalized, explaining your lab results or connecting you to a One Medical doctor for certain conditions. Prime members even get a few free virtual chats! Now, for the important part: sharing your health data with AI. Researchers have been warning about companies using conversations for training. Amazon says they train their AI using "abstracted patterns" without directly ident...
