Windows is Getting Less AI-Bloated (Finally!) - FRI, 21 MAR 2026
Hot off the press this morning, Microsoft just announced they're making some big changes to Windows 11, and a key part of it is dialing back how much their AI assistant, Copilot, shows up. They're basically saying "less is more" when it comes to AI, especially in apps like Photos, Widgets, Notepad, and the Snipping Tool. The goal is to make sure AI integrations are actually useful and not just everywhere for the sake of it.
This isn't the first time Microsoft has had to rethink their AI plans; they've previously delayed features like "Recall" due to privacy worries. It seems like a lot of people are getting tired of AI being shoved into every corner of their tech. A recent study even found that half of US adults are now more concerned than excited about AI. Microsoft says they've been listening to user feedback, and these changes are a direct result of wanting to make Windows better for everyone. Beyond AI, they're also adding cool stuff like being able to move your taskbar around and speeding up File Explorer!
So, why does this matter to you? Well, if you’ve felt like your computer was getting a bit cluttered with AI features you don’t use, this is good news! It shows that big tech companies are actually paying attention to what users want. Hopefully, this means a cleaner, more efficient Windows experience with AI that genuinely helps, rather than just gets in the way. It’s a step towards tech that adapts to us, instead of us having to adapt to tech.
What do you think about AI being integrated into everything? Do you find it helpful, or do you prefer a simpler, less "smart" approach?
