Microsoft is Slimming Down AI on Windows! FRI, 21 MAR 2026

Remember how Microsoft started putting its AI assistant, Copilot, everywhere in Windows? Well, they just announced they’re actually pulling it back a bit. Starting with apps like Photos, Widgets, Notepad, and the Snipping Tool, you'll see less of Copilot popping up.

Microsoft says they want to be more thoughtful about where AI appears, focusing only on features that are truly helpful. It seems like they've been listening to a lot of people who felt like there was just too much AI crammed into everything, and sometimes it caused more headaches than help. This isn't the first time they've rethought their AI plans, either, showing they're paying attention to what users want.

This is great news for anyone who uses Windows! It means your computer might feel less cluttered and more focused on what you actually need. It also shows that big tech companies do listen to us. When we voice our concerns about things like too much AI or privacy, they sometimes make changes. Plus, alongside this, Microsoft is also bringing back features like moving your taskbar around and making File Explorer faster, which are just general quality-of-life improvements.

What do you think about AI being integrated into everyday apps? Do you feel like there's been too much 'AI bloat' lately, or do you find it genuinely useful?
