Elon Musk is Building His Own Chips?! 🤯 MON, 23 MAR 2026
Hot off the press! Elon Musk just announced some super ambitious plans to start making his own computer chips for both Tesla and SpaceX. He's calling this new facility "Terafab" and it's set to be built near Tesla's headquarters in Austin. Basically, Musk says chip makers today aren't fast enough to keep up with his companies' massive needs for artificial intelligence and robotics. So, his solution? Build them himself! He wants this factory to churn out enough chips to power huge computing tasks here on Earth and even a crazy amount for projects in space. He didn't give a timeline, though, and it's worth remembering that Musk sometimes makes big promises that take a while to fully materialize.
This is a pretty big deal because if he pulls it off, it means Tesla and SpaceX would be way less dependent on outside companies for a critical part of their tech. Think about how many chips go into self-driving cars or advanced rockets! Being able to make their own could speed up innovation and give them more control. But it's also a massive undertaking, and making cutting-edge chips is incredibly complex and expensive. It'll be fascinating to see if this "Terafab" truly gets off the ground and how it impacts the tech world.
What do you think about Elon Musk taking on chip manufacturing? Is this a genius move for his companies, or do you think it's a step too far?
