Google just made a big move that gives creators more freedom with their artificial intelligence-generated content. The company announced that users will soon be able to remove the obvious, visible watermark that usually marks AI-created images, videos, and even songs. This means your digital creations, made with tools like Gemini, will look cleaner and more natural without that tell-tale "AI-generated" stamp.
This new option will be available for various Google AI models, including Nano Banana, Omni, and Lyria. Josh Woodward, a vice president for Google’s Gemini team, shared that the setting to turn off these visible watermarks will roll out in Gemini and Google’s video editing tool, Flow. Support for Google Search will follow soon, expanding where users can control these labels.
While the visible marks are disappearing, Google is still committed to transparency in a different way. The company confirmed that this change will not affect its invisible SynthID watermark technology. It also won’t touch the C2PA standard metadata, which are like hidden digital tags. These invisible identifiers will still be embedded in the content, allowing tools like Gemini or Search to confirm if a piece of media was created by AI, even if you can’t see a label on it.
